A Kahlil Gibran Moment

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls;

the most massive characters are seared with scars.”

Kahlil Gibran

Kahlil Gibran (1883 – 1931) was an artist, philosopher, poet and writer.  He wrote The Prophet, one of the best-selling books of all time.

Past Life Regressions Are a Shortcut into Your Unconscious Mind

Do you want to know what’s holding you back in life?  Do a past life regression and you’ll find out in an hour.

Everyone has problems (it’s not just me, right?).  We repeat patterns that we cannot seem to break through.  We’ll have the same issues for years and years and, try as we might to make headway on them, we still have the same issues.

Did you know that you’re here to resolve your issues?  And if you don’t, you could live and die with the same darn crap you started with?

Boooring.

All your problems are very, very old.  You’ve lived and died with them enough times by now that I say it’s time to fix them.  Personally, I was so over my issues that I was willing to do anything to get resolution.  And I did.

The fact that I’m even writing this blog post is proof that past life regressions work, because, seriously… I’m writing a blog post about past life regressions.  Who does that?  Don’t think I didn’t used to be terrified of being called out as crazy or weird.  That fear held me back for far too long.

Now?  OK, admittedly, I’ve got other fears and other problems to resolve (hey, I’m still alive!), but fear of being called crazy and weird?  Nah.  That shit’s been worked through.

It all started with writer’s block, this unexplainable inability I had to write, even though I knew how to write.  I’d stare at a computer screen or a blank piece of paper and wish I had something to say, pray that something would come out.  I’d even pretend that I was writing a book, while all I could manage to eek out were a bunch of ridiculous stories that started with, “Once upon a time” and ended with, “And they lived happily ever after.  !?!?!”

I tried so many different ways to work it out and I was so sick and tired (oh yeah, that too) that when the idea of breaking through my “blocks” by digging into my unconscious mind via past life regression therapy came up, I thought, “Why not?  I’ve tried everything else.”

Ooh, child!  Things got a lot easier in a very short time.  I finally figured out what was holding me back because (I know I’ve said this before, but) our hang-ups are so deep that we don’t even realize they exist.  I had these fears that I wasn’t paying any attention to until they came to me via my subconscious mind/past-life regressions.  It was like light bulb a-ha moments galore!

If there’s anything in your life that you want to do, be or have, and you can’t figure out why you cannot do, be or have it, a past life regression will help you understand.  Then you can resolve your past and your karma so you can stop the unconscious self-sabotaging madness.  It’s the quickest way to dig into the deepest parts of you.

Your first past life regression might start a little more surface.  Doing this work is like peeling an onion, so it often takes more than one go at it, but your Soul knows what information is right for you to handle when the time is right.  It allows the doors of your unconscious mind to open in the most appropriate order.

If you think this kind of work is for you, then stay tuned, because next week I am launching chapter 3 of my book, called Releasing the Past & Resolving Karma.  The whole past life regression process will be explained in detail AND an MP3 past life regression meditation will be included so that you can do this on your own.

I’ll have you covered.

P.S.  Don’t forget Mercury is now retrograde!  Mars is too.  It’s a GREAT time to review your past.

Projections, Reflections & the Mirror Theory

Last week I wrote about being told off by a stranger on a bike path, and I admitted that after analyzing the situation, I decided not to blame the outburst on the biker’s anger issues, but to take responsibility that I (my Soul) created him in my life to reflect my own repressed anger issues back to me.  Or in other words, I unconsciously projected my anger issues onto him.

Carl Jung said that what you repress, you create outside of yourself as chaos.

(He also said that what you resist persists…  I’m a fan.)  I use this philosophy all over the place in my life.  Some people think I overanalyze, but I do so because it helps me immensely to make sense of the drama that comes up in life, and it aids me in resolving it efficiently.

There IS a method to the madness.

Have you ever heard anyone say that all the people in your life are mirrors to you?  I heard that in an astrology class more than ten years ago and it stuck with me, but I honestly couldn’t figure out what the heck the teacher was talking about.  I looked around my life and I just wasn’t seeing it.

Now I understand.

It’s NOT that everyone in your life is reflecting everything in you.  Like does attract like, so people you are close to are generally going to be like-minded.  But in many other cases, people show up in your life to reflect only certain parts of you back to yourself.  You can find the reflections in your emotional reactions to the other person’s behavior.

In other words, what you judge the most in others is what you are judging in yourself.

Take a look around your life and notice the people you are having an emotional reaction to (love ‘em or hate ‘em).  The reaction is telling you one of the following things:  You have the quality too and if it is a problematic trait, you can work to lessen it.  Or, you have the quality too and if it is a positive trait, you can work to develop it.  (There are cases where we don’t like people because they have a positive quality that we haven’t yet developed, and the reaction implies it would be beneficial for us to do so!)

Remember you have to be real honest with yourself and OWN UP to your inner stuff in order to figure this out.  It can be tricky.  And, often, you are not acting out the behaviors in the same way the other person does.

Example:  You could have a boss who drives you crazy because she is overly dependent on you for support.  Perhaps you are independent in the office, but are still overly dependent on your parents for support.  As you become more independent in the other area of your life, your boss will start to leave you alone, or the behavior will bother you less.

That’s how it works.

To make matters a bit more confusing, sometimes a person may be reflecting an emotion in you that is so repressed and so old (from childhood or past-lives) that you don’t even know it’s there.

Like my biker example.  The only way I know I have repressed anger is because he told me (actually, my body’s been telling me too).  I would like to expand on this anger topic, but it really deserves its own blog post, so I am going to leave you with this for now.

I believe it can be very helpful to, dare I say, overanalyze frustrating situations.  When you look at things in your life this way – read into the symbolic messages of events and take responsibility for your creation of them - it can be empowering.  You can use your emotional reactions as a tool to help you understand yourself more, and, in turn, to make beneficial changes in areas that your Soul wants you to.

You don’t have to do this, of course, but uhhh… what you resist persists.

The Blessing of a Soul Contract

A few weeks ago, I was roller skating on a path that I frequent, holding my car keys in one hand and my cell phone in the other.  For a moment I was looking down while skating.  Upon lifting my eyes, I realized I was headed straight towards a man on his bicycle.  I wouldn’t call it a near collision; there was plenty of time for me to swerve out of the way to avoid the biker.  After I did so, I grabbed a pole that was in front of me and stopped.

The man on the bicycle stopped too.  He was PISSED!

He got off his bike, came up in my face and told me off.  “Perhaps it’s time for you to learn an important lesson,” he reprimanded.  “Maybe this is just what you needed for you to finally understand that you cannot text while roller skating.”  (I wasn’t.)  “Why don’t you pay attention and learn something from this!”  (Oh, I will.  Just not what you think I’ll learn.)

I thanked the man and went on my way.

I will admit that at first I was a bit shaken to have been yelled at so profusely for making, what I thought, was an innocent mistake.  I took my eye off the path for just a moment; it really wasn’t that big a deal.  Additionally, I certainly don’t text while skating (or driving), so that was not the lesson I needed to learn.

“I guess the guy’s got some anger issues and I just gave him an opportunity to release some if it,” I thought to myself.  I continued skating and processing the experience in my head when it hit me, “Oh no.  I have anger issues too, and he just came into my life to show me that!  We had a Soul contract!”

What is a Soul contract?

A Soul contract is an agreement we make on the Soul level with other Souls we know to have experiences together that we can learn from.  We have Soul contracts with every single person in our lives, and all of our Soul contracts are karmic (meaning we are connected to the Souls from past lifetimes).

We have Soul contracts with our parents, children and siblings, our friends and acquaintances, the people we date and marry, classmates, coworkers, and more.  Some contracts/relationships are more lasting and significant to our growth than others, of course, but even brief encounters can have an effect on us.

All contracts are given to us by our Souls, and all are sacred.

I think it’s easier to accept this concept when we have a relationship with someone who is good to us, but harder to understand why our Soul would ever ask someone in our life to be hurtful.  Karma is one reason.  If we have put out an action somewhere in some life (including this one), the action is going to come back to us, like it or not.  Another reason is that we learn the most in suffering.

Everything at the Soul level does come from love.

I think it’s important to honor all our Soul contracts, even if we don’t like them.  That’s why I thanked the man for yelling at me (and, trust me, I’ve had far worse too).  I somehow knew that he was teaching me a lesson that I’d asked him to teach me, and I just had to figure out what it was.

Next week I’ll explain how I knew this lesson was about MY OWN repressed anger, and I will address the important topic of anger releasing.  I think we all have repressed anger to some extent, though we may not be aware of it, and taking care of our anger is one of the most beneficial things we can do for ourselves.

Imagination is Real

One of the fascinating things about being a mom is watching how much fun my kids have using their imaginations, and how easily they access it.  There have been many occasions when they have asked me for things that I am just not going to give them, but instead I say, “Just use your imagination!”

It works like a charm.  No sooner do I direct them to pretend than they’re off giggling, riding imaginary ponies, flying like birds, or even, gulp, playing with a shiny new pistol.

There’s nothing false about your imagination.  It is very real indeed.  It’s the place where your bright ideas come from, your creativity, your brilliant shower moments.  It’s an actual realm of existence (called the imaginal realm), somewhere between the physical and spiritual planes.  I tell my kids it’s where the fairies live, and I believe that’s true.  (Come on, fairies have to exist somewhere, right?!)

I have a pretty easy time accessing my imagination, and since I’ve bought into the idea of it being a real place, I like to go there to fearlessly live out my fantasies.  But imagination is not just for fun and games; you can solve all sorts of problems there too.

Last week I told you that you could use your imagination to access your unconscious mind, because your imagination is like a bridge between your conscious mind and your unconscious mind.  It’s not all that difficult to cross the bridge, in fact.  Mostly you just need some quiet time and some conviction.

SO MUCH CAN BE DONE in the imaginal realm.  It’s called internal work.  It’s the best place to go to figure yourself out, to understand what makes you tick, to make sense of all the different, crazy parts of yourself.  In fact, the more you understand yourself, the more you realize that you’re not all that crazy after all.  (Well, at least that’s been my experience.)

Of course your imagination can be working for/with you as you move through your busy days, but if you want to access it for a specific purpose, you certainly can.  Even if you’re not a big meditator (I’m not), going into a sort of meditation can get you there.  (You do not even need to know how to meditate to do this!  Trust me; a few deep breaths are all you need to get you into the zone.)

I’ll go into my imagination to meet with my Soul, my Inner Child, my Inner Divine Parents, other Souls, or to find out about my past lives.  I would suggest starting with your Soul and branching out from there.

All you need to do is choose a goal or a question.  Sit down, close your eyes and take some long, deep breaths.  Ask your Soul to join you in your mind’s eye and then TRUST WHAT YOU SEE.  You may think you are making up what is coming to you and it’s just your imagination (well, it is!), but that doesn’t matter.  Just go with it and keep going.

Start talking, start asking questions, and listen for answers.  Responses will come.  Basically you can get into a conversation with whomever you’re meeting with there, and the conversation will be good.  The responses may come to you as images, as sensations, or as words.

Stay there until you got what you went in for.  When you’re done, thank your Soul or whomever was hangin’ with you there and leave.

The more you go along with the process, the more you will realize that you could not be making up what comes to you.  It’s all too good and makes too much sense that you can’t even credit yourself for the brilliance of it.  I’m always surprised with what I come away with.

I cannot promise that the answers will be exactly what you want to hear, but I can promise that there will be answers.

Top 10 Reasons to Do Your Soul Mission

I want to convince you of how awesome it is to integrate with your Soul and live your Soul’s purpose.  In that spirit, here is a list of the top 10 reasons to just do it already!

10.  It’s good for the environment!

I am so passionate about the environment that this is actually one of the main reasons I do this work.  It’s hard to make an impact on this big Earth, but when we are taking care of ourselves, keeping ourselves clean and clear on the inside, the Earth responds.  Things happening within us are reflected outside of us.  This truly is an environmental cause as much as anything else.

9.  It’s filled with wonder and excitement.

Knowing and living your Mission is exciting.  I keep saying that and I’m saying it again.  It’s still life as far as “life” goes, but I just don’t think it can get any better than it gets when you’re living on purpose.

8.  It brings meaning to your life.

When you find out your Mission, you’ll get a real understanding of why you’re here, and it feels so right and so powerful that it absolutely brings meaning to life.  You have an important purpose.  It feels really good to know what it is.

7.  Serendipity abounds.

When you start to work with your Soul, your Soul will work with you by offering amazing, serendipitous experiences all over the place.  It’s fun.  The more aware you are, the more you will see.

6.  You’ll solve your problems faster.

Even when things aren’t going the way I want them to, I find solace in the fact that my Soul created my problems, and I become quite the detective in trying to figure out why.  When you know your Mission, it’s easier to understand the symbolic messages that come from your Soul into your life, and as you start to read the messages, it gives you direction to be able to more quickly and efficiently solve your problems.

5.  You’ll have so many fewer cosmic 2 x 4’s.

Cosmic 2 x 4’s can be karmic (well, everything’s karmic), but they can also be avoided in some cases.  Basically, the karma is showing up to teach us things.  When we take proactive measures and pay attention to the symbols that come from our Souls that are guiding us towards our Mission, and start to learn from them, our Souls don’t have to ‘talk’ louder and louder by presenting us with crises (aka cosmic 2 x 4’s).

4.  You’ll up your game.

With your Soul, you can up your game on so many levels in ways that you simply could not do alone.  It really does make a huge difference.  As Linda Brady says, “We’re eight cylinder cars but, without our Souls, we’re not operating on all eight cylinders.”  Connecting with your Soul can get you there.

3.  Life smoothes out.

Another thing I keep saying is how hard it can be to do your Mission, and I think that is somewhat misleading.  It is a challenge, yes, but with far less of the problems, dramas and crises that come up when you’re off track, life, overall, actually becomes much more harmonious and, in turn, easier.

2.  You’ll be so proud of yourself.

Isn’t it wonderful to make yourself proud?  At the end of the day, when you’ve done your Mission, you really will feel proud.  I do.  I plan to feel that way at the end of my life too.

1.  Your Soul will be your best friend for life.

There is no better relationship.  Period.

Winter Solstice Greetings

Today marks the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.  Historically, the Winter Solstice has been cause for much celebration.  The shortest day of the year, it marks the rebirth of the Sun – our source of warmth and light.  We move from darkness to light both literally and symbolically.

On this Winter Solstice and beyond, may the great Sun shine upon you, warming your heart and lighting your path.  May your life be set ablaze.  May you glow.

Haunted Houses and Ghostly Fears

I took my kids to a haunted house over the weekend; the flyer said it would be “mildly scary.”  In my opinion, it was fantastic, but my children would beg to differ.  They were horrified.  My son was crying and screaming at me for taking him through it.  When we finally got out the exit doors, he avowed quite vehemently, “I will NEVER go to a haunted house ever again!  Do you hear me?!  Never again!!”

Got it.

Please know that my son is ok now.  He was soothed rather quickly when he found the children’s game booths, and this morning, upon hearing that there was going to be a haunted house at his school, he said, “Well, maybe I’ll go in it.  If the teacher holds my hand.”

Do you know that we’ve all done this kind of thing?  We’ve had traumatic experiences and sworn never to repeat them again!  Not just in our childhoods, but perhaps more powerfully, over the course of many lifetimes.

Stay with me.

When I first started working with my coach, I told her I’d been wanting to write a book for something like ten years, and I’d made little to no progress in doing so.

“You’re afraid of success,” Linda told me.

“No, I’m not.  I want to be successful more than anything,” I insisted.  “I’m afraid of failure.”

“That’s not what’s stopping you from doing it,” Linda maintained.  “It’s the fear of success that’s holding you back.”

We worked through this idea pretty thoroughly, did some past-life regressions, and came to the conclusion that yes, indeed, success was terrifying to me.  Only I had not realized it before.

Turns out that I had lived a number of lifetimes where I had been rather successfully speaking my mind.  In doing so, I was noticed.  People didn’t agree with what I had to say and, to make some long stories short, my success ultimately led to my death.

Guess what I was thinking to myself, quite vehemently might I add, at the point of my death?  “I will NEVER get myself into this kind of situation ever again!  I mean it!  Never again!!”

Sound familiar?

Don’t think I’m the only sucker who’s gotten into a messy predicament.  You’ve done it too.  I don’t know what exactly you’ve done, but chances are good that in one lifetime or another (or in many) you’ve done something that got your ass killed.

When we are at the point of a frightful death, our feelings are so intense and our thoughts are so congruent that this is the moment when we have the power to create like God.  You’ve heard of the power of the mind, yes?  You know that when your mind is really, truly set on something, there’s no stopping you, right?

So, imagine this kind of situation, and know that vowing never to repeat your mistake is incredibly potent.

This decision, this memory, is now stored in your subconscious mind.

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt nervous, queasy, shaky, or broken into a panicky sweat?  Was the situation really that scary that it would make you tremble with fear?  Likely not.  The quivering is there to remind you of something old, something very, very old.

Something you are here to resolve.

Yes, your Soul set you up to face your fears.  You don’t have to face them, of course, but your Soul is also dangling a big carrot at the other side of them.  It wants to give you a new perspective.  It wants you to know that you can do this again, and you will survive it.

You must go through your fears to get to your Soul Mission.  (Nice, huh?)  In doing so, you will be rewarded.  If you’ve ever faced a really deep fear, you know the rewards I’m talking about: exhilaration, satisfaction, pride, wondrous experiences.

If you’ve never faced a mighty fear, give it a shot.

After all, if my son can do it, you can too.  Just ask your Soul to hold your hand.  It will.

God Is NOT Boring

When I first stepped onto the spiritual path, I will admit I had some reservations.  All this talk about God and prayer sounded a little too righteous for me.  I was (and still am) a rebellious kind of girl.  I like to have fun, I like to break rules, I like to use curse words and I DON’T like to conform.  I used to voice my concern to my friends on The Other Side who were guiding me towards my path by complaining, “This all sounds sooo boring!  I don’t know if I’m down with it.”

They would reply in earnest, “God is NOT boring!  God is NOT boring.”

When they put it that way, I thought a little harder.  Looking around at the world, I observed that there’s really nothing boring about it.  After all, God gave us sex, drugs and rock-n-roll.  Churches and temples too.  Disney cruises.  Mountains to climb.  War.  Gay Paris.  Nope, nothing lackluster about this world.

Photo by Jim Nix / Nomadic Pursuits

I continue to observe humanity and I notice that no one else seems to want to be bored either.  There’s a massive amount of drama going on that we all continue to get involved in, read about, view, and discuss with our friends.  I wonder if we are all creating this drama – the spectacles, the crises, the conundrums – simply to make life more interesting.  And is it possible to have a remarkable life without all the calamity?

Truth be told, before I got onto my newfound path, I had plenty of dilemmas.  I was trying in earnest to solve all my problems which definitely gave me something to do, only I wasn’t getting anywhere with them.  I had the same major problems in my life year after year after year.  This was not the least bit exciting.  It wasn’t until I got spiritual that I got solutions.

My Soul Mission took my life to a whole new level.  When I first learned that I have a Capricorn Soul and that I am supposed to develop Capricorn qualities, I initially recoiled again.  Capricorn can be described as mature, disciplined, practical, structured, serious and hard-working.  To me, that sounded so dull!  However, the more I understood what integrating those traits into my personality would mean, the more I saw that only in doing so would I be able to make all my dreams come true.

Now that sounded like fun!

Since I’ve been working on living my Soul Mission, I’ve had such a wild ride.  Aside from finally solving all the aforementioned problems, I am also now doing things I love.  And as much as I think I know where this path is taking me, what might be the best part of it all is that I actually haven’t the slightest idea.  Life continues to surprise me on a very regular basis.  My Soul keeps me guessing!

There are occasions when I doubt the process and I long to do something really un-Capricorn-like.  I know I have free will and I can do whatever I want to do; plus perfection is the last thing my Soul expects from me.  But I also know that the farther I veer from my Mission, the more unpleasant the consequences will be.  Short-term pleasure can make for long-term pain.

My Soul is more than a Capricorn; my Soul is also God, and as I said, God is not boring.  When I feel displeased with some of the Capricorn-like restrictions, the first thing I’ll do is talk to my Soul about it.  I just did it a few days ago, actually.  I asked my Soul for more excitement in my life, and sure enough, I got it.

Photo by David Grant / fusionpanda

You may or may not have a Capricorn Soul like I have (of course, I’d be happy to inform you!), but whatever you have I can promise you this: being in alignment with your Soul will be the most exhilarating and positive experience you can imagine.  Your God, your Soul, will make certain of it.
